I gave this 5/5 stars.
This middle grade book was truly amazing. The whole book is written in the perspective of a gorilla who is held captive in a mall circus and is not treated the way he should be. I really liked this perspective because it showed a different side of the story that many people may not have been able to see. The author was able to talk about some darker topics and make is so that a younger audience would be able to fully understand how these things are bad by using the gorilla’s perspective. I also loved the writing style of the book as a whole. The character development was amazing for both the animals and humans. I was slowly introduced to the context around the harsh situations. I think that the best part of the whole novel is that it is all based off of a true story. That fact really shows how these types of things really do happen in our world today. I would recommend this book to any younger readers who are interested in animals and to all teens/adults.
